In the Other Devices section, Windows 7 Device Manager can show an error on an Unknown Device that can be mistaken for a TPM module. Details on the device show ACPI\MSFT0101.
In fact this device is Intel Platform Trust Technology (Intel PTT) which is required for security features of Windows 8.x and Windows 10.
Under Windows 7 it performs no fuction and can be disabled in the BIOS.

This error occurs when you enable the IntelĀ® Platform Trust Technology option on the Security tab in BIOS. Windows 7 does not require this setting, so you can disable it in BIOS. Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 require this setting for security purposes. |
