Stone N120 Hotkey As A Service
==============================

Version 0.07 6/6/2014

This software solution improves the reliability of using a wireless connection on domain networks on the Stone N120 Netbook.
If you are not using a domain network, or if you have a different model of laptop, you do not need this software.
This solution has been designed for Windows 7, x86 or x64.

Basic Instructions
==================
- Login as an Administrator
- Install the Hotkey software for your machine. If you are running Windows 7, please ensure you are running Hotkey 7.00.33, which can also be downloaded from: http://www.stonecomputers.com/ftp/andrews/n120/N120_hotkey_7.zip

- Download and extract this Hotkey as a Service package to the C drive of the machine
- Open an Administrative command prompt
- Run install_hotkey_service.bat

Wireless Settings
=================
Please ensure that your wireless profile is not a user specific profile. The profile needs to be available to all users to allow domain logon over wireless to work.

The Service
===========
The installer creates a service called HOTKEY_SERVICE which starts when the machine boots.
This improves the reliability of the wireless service so that domain logins work more smoothly on a wireless connection.

Once the user has logged in, the HOTKEY_SERVICE is stopped and the Hotkey.EXE program is restarted under user credentials. This allows an "interactive" service meaning that all on-screen display functionality of the hotkey program works.

Why Don't I See the Service Running?
====================================
When you have logged onto the machine the service is stopped, and the Hotkey.exe program is started under the logged on user's context. If you log off, the wireless connection is still maintained.

Silent Installer
================
If you want to run install_hotkey_service.bat without interaction - i.e. a silent install, simply run install_hotkey_service.bat -q

Group Policy Reliability Improvements
=====================================
The Hotkey as a Service installer also adds some group policy reliability registry entried.

Please test that these entries are suitable for your environment.

If you do not want these entries applied as part of the installation, simply delete the file hotkey_group_policy.reg before running install_hotkey_service.bat.

"GpNetworkStartTimeoutPolicyValue"=dword:00000078
"ExpectedDialupDelay"=dword:00000078
"GpNetworkStartTimeoutPolicyValue"=dword:00000078
"DisableDHCPMediaSense"=dword:00000001

These settings may cause the logon to take a little longer, but they will better ensure that group policies are applied.

Removal
=======
Removing the Hotkey as a service -

On an x86 system:
Run as an Administrator C:\Program Files\Hotkey_Service\uninstall_hotkey_service.bat

On an x64 system:
Run as an Administrator C:\Program Files (x86)\Hotkey_Service\uninstall_hotkey_service.bat

Again, the uninstaller also accepts the /q switch for quiet uninstall.

Please note: The group policy domain logon reliability improvements installed with the Hotkey as a Service installer are NOT removed by the uninstaller.

Release Notes
